Kate O’Donnell is Vice President and Managing Director at Northwell Holdings, the for-profit commercialization and venture investment arm of Northwell Health. She also serves as Vice President for Legal Affairs at Northwell Health. Kate oversees Northwell Holdings’ venture investment strategy, capital investments and portfolio management. Kate focuses on identifying and investing in emerging companies that address critical health system challenges by driving efficiency, elevating patient care and expanding access, while generating the strong investment returns essential to support Northwell’s mission. Kate joined Northwell Health in 2016 as legal counsel and has supported Northwell’s venture capital investment team since its inception, transitioning to Managing Director of the venture portfolio in 2024. Kate oversees a portfolio of 24 active portfolio companies and, leveraging her background in venture capital and M&A, has collaborated on the launch and management of numerous internal spin-offs and commercial joint ventures. She serves on multiple boards, including Hume AI, Optain Health, Cognixion, and Neuvotion, among others. Prior to joining Northwell Health, Kate worked at Willkie, Farr & Gallagher LLP, focusing on venture capital investing and M&A. Prior to that, she worked at Hughes Hubbard and Reed, LLP, where she focused on M&A and private equity investments. Kate earned her Juris Doctorate from Duke University, as well as a Masters of English. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Richmond.
